    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    The Magna Carta was a document that gave Englishmen certain rights. They forced the King john to sing it or they were going to revolt and kill him. This document plays a big part in the writing of the constituiton. It was the first documents the gave men certain rights and freedom. The Americans felt they should have the same rights as the English did and so incorporated things in this document into their wn.
  • House of Burgesses

    House of Burgesses
    It was a meeting of 22 men, 2 men from each plantation. The meeting was about ratifying the gorevment that they had in place. They changed the laws and displayed the first democratic government in that time.
  • The Mayflower Compact

    The Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower Compact was a documement signed by the every Pilgram that stepped foot onto Plimoth Rock. The document was constituiton giving people rights and freedom and liberties. As this document only resided for a while till English rule took over it was a basis for or own constituiton. We use the freedoms and the liberties as a guideline for our governments own constitiution

    Petition of Rights
    The Petition of rights had four principles. One was no taxes would be given without parliament concent. Two, no imprisiment without a shown cause. Three, soldiers cannot be put in private hoses and four, a marial law cannot be used in time of peace. The rule we use the most is the government cannot put a person in jail without trial.

    English Bill of Rights
    The English Bill of Rights weekend the royal families power. If Parliament made a rule the royal family could not dismiss it. It also restricted the crown being able to raise taxes without the blessing of parliament. The system of which bills and laws are passed are due to this bill. We have checks and balances and the executive cannot make decision without congress agreeing.

    Townsend Acts
    The Townsend Acts was a document from the British Tresuarer. The document put taxes on glass, lead, paper, paints, and tea. This created tension between the colonists and great britian. This act led to the writters of the constituition to put laws so the government couldnt raise taxes on the people without 2/3rds vote. This keeps from taxing without the peoples concent and not causing uprisings in within the nation.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre single handedly led to the American Revolution. 5 British troups fired upon a crowed of protesting colonists that were protesting the taxes and rules forced upon them by the crown. The 5 british soldiers were sent back to Great Britian for trial when the colonists wanted them to be tried in the colonies. In the constituition a man has to be tried in the state the event took place.

    Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea party was a statement to the crown of no more taxation. A group of colonists snuck on to british ships at night and threw British tea overboard into the boston horbor. This led to the intolerable acts. These events that accured allowed the constituition to have rules about taxation that dpepend on the people and fair representation.

    Intolerable Acts 09/18/1774
    The Intolerable Acts were used to punish the colonists. The king used these Acts to try to show the colonists who is boss. It did just the opposite of that and made the colonists angry. The crown did what they wanted and miss representation the colonists on raising of taxes. Now in order to raise tax we get representation in the government with our state elected governers.
  • Annopolis Convention Resolution

    Annopolis Convention Resolution
    Initially it was a convention to solve inner state trade and other issues. Only 5 states showed to the convention so it had little power. The wanting to amend the articles was a goal but it was short lived. A new goal arrose to make a new constituition and scrap the articles of confederation.
