    Democritus (390-460 BC)

    Democritus (390-460 BC)
Democritus stated that the world is made up of tons of invisible, indestructible atoms that are in constant motion and differ in shapes, sizes, and weights. His conclusion was purely based on senses and how objects looked. Huffman, Carl A. "Democritus." World Book Student. World Book, 2014. Web. 26 Feb. 2014.

    Aristotle (384-322 BC)

    Aristotle (384-322 BC)
Aristotle discovered that there is a difference between form and matter. For instance, water will be water at all times, but the form can vary between a liquid, solid, or gas. This was found by looking at a sculpture and realizing that no matter what is made from the rock, it is the same rock. Soll, Ivan. "Aristotle." World Book Student. World Book, 2014. • Dalton

    Dalton
English Chemist John Dalton stated that all chemical elements are made of its own atoms, all with the same relative weight. During his research on color blindness is when he created this theory. Usselman, Melvyn C. "Dalton, John." World Book Student. World Book, 2014. Web. 26 Feb. 2014.
  • Thomas

    Thomas
Thomas was credited for disccovering a mixture where atoms are distributed but not dissolved. This is called a colloid. He worked as a chemist at a university in London. "Graham, Thomas." World Book Student. World Book, 2014. Web. 26 Feb. 2014.
  • Rutherford

    Rutherford
Rutherford created a nuclear model of an atom. He stated that the atom had a tense middle called a nucleus, while the negativly charged electrons float around the nulcleus. He was a physicist at Cambridge university when he created the model. Stuewer, Roger H. "Rutherford, Ernest." World Book Student. World Book, 2014. Web. 26 Feb. 2014.
  • Bohr

    Bohr
Based on Rutherford's earlier model of the atom, Bohr stated that electrons have multiple outter rings, while the inner ones couldn't hold as many as the outter ones. He also said that the otter electrons determined the appearence of the element. Bohr was studying Rutherford's model of an atom when he discovered this theory. Stanley, Matthew. "Bohr, Niels." World Book Student. World Book, 2014. Web. 26 Feb. 2014.
  • Heisenberg and Schrodinger

    Heisenberg and Schrodinger
This scientists created the model of an atom in which the nucleus of an atom is created with protons and neutrons. This was found while studying about the model of atoms. Cassidy, David C. "Heisenberg, Werner." World Book Student. World Book, 2014. Web. 26 Feb. 2014.
