    The Cuban revolution greatly affected the influx of Cuban students in 1963. There became a high need for bilingual and bi-cultural schooling. Coral Way elementary was the first school to provide both these thing in efforts to accommodate it's students needs. This allows for students to understand and retain information because it was taught to them in their native tongue, as well as. increased confidence on students to participate in classes that valued their culture.

    Learning Disabilities Association of America
    This association allows for students who receive special education to be identified as having learning disabilities. This reduces feelings of worthlessness and give students understanding of their differences and how to accept themselves. Politically correct language can be important in decreasing bullying.

    Discrimination was very common in the 60's. So much so, that this act was passed to deter these accounts of ignorance. This act prohibits persons from discriminating against other person based on race, color, sex, religion or national origin.

    This act made an enormous contribution to low-income students. These students, who are of a lower economic status, now have the funds to aide them in their educational journey.

    This act makes it possible for an un-heard of amount of Asians and Latin Americans immigrating to the United States. This allows for diversity in schools that have been focused on one demographic, White students.
  • The Higher Education Act

    The Higher Education Act
    This act helps so many students, who without it, would not be able to afford to attend higher education institutions, colleges and universities. It also establishes the National Teachers Corps. These funnels teachers in to primary and elementary schools in predominantly low-income areas.

    This act was huge in both student and teacher increase in stress levels and low performance on test and professional evaluations. Teachers are forced to teach the test and have essential learning points take a back seat. Schools funding would be cut if scores were low and teachers fired. Students are now defined by test scores rather than good grades in classes and extra curricular activities.

    The induction of an African American President gave moral and hope to so many people of color. Children of color could now see that they too could set to be a in a position that was taught could never be obtained. Representation matters in the sense of creating realistic possibilities in the minds of children. Barack Obama can now be used as a symbol of hard word and perseverance through education for people of color.

    New Texas Social Studies Curriculum Standards
    This poses a threat to the strides taken to insure the inclusion of people of color's culture and history to be taught in schools. Granted, the accounts that are representative of people of color are focused on timid and non-confrontational icons and event, but they are true. This new standard proposes to amen event and lives in favor of the White/European views. This will put the school system back in the place. of exclusion, isolation and discrimination.

    2 Years Free Community College
    Just the thought of being able to obtain a free associates can mean a world of difference on the lives of low-income, mostly people of color. An associate means a better paying job and the ability to spend your money on wants and needs versus loans and credit card debt. Many people cannot afford higher education, so by having 2 years of free college can give those who want a bachelors time to save and plan for another two years of education.
