    The IUCN was created in Fontainebleau, France and is a union that provides public, private and non-governmental organizations with the tools they need to be successful to help and conserve and develop nature.

  • 3 Billion (Population)

    After both the world wars, the world is experiencing yet another industrial turn around and families are growing.
  • Rachel Carson's Silent Spring

    Silent Spring is a book that came out in 1962 concerning issues with pesticides. It brought a lot of attention to the side affects of using pesticides and similar issues.
  • Minamata Disease

    Chisso-Minamata disease is a syndrome caused by mercury poisoning. This disease was discovered in the 50's and 60's when Minamata Bay in Japan became very polluted with wastewater. This changed the way humans think about disposing of wastewater.

    This act was a policy passed to require federal governments to evaluate decisions based on the impact it will have on the earth. This also required governemnts to have statements created for the building of many diffent types of projects.

    Hypothesis that organisms on planet earth will affect nature of their environment in order to make it more suitable for life, it helps maintain conditions for life on earth.

    An estimated 21 million people walked the streets across the United States of America, raising awareness of the deterioration of Earth due to the human race. This day marked the tradition of the annual movement of raising awareness of our natural inheritance.

    On this day, the first earth day took place and people gathered to hear people talk about cleaning the earth and how people can change their lifestyles to help protect the environment.
  • Notorious Toxic Chemical Banned

    Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane is a colorless and odorless insecticide that was used during the post-war era to help farms. This chemical banned allowed for these horriblle chemicals to be banned from use on farms.

    14 years later the world population has had a rapid growth of one more billion.

    On this date, green peace launched the worlds first anti whaling campaign in Vancouver, a mission to stop killing whales locally and globally.
  • Bhopal gas tragedy

    The Bhopal gas leak was an incident in India where a gas leak spread harmful gasses into multiple villages in India. The gas killed over 3000 peopled polluted the area.
  • Chernobyl( Nuclear Power Plant Meltdown)

    Happening 30 years ago in Kiev, Ukraine. The Explosion of the Chernobyl power plant led to more than 30 dead and exposed an uncountable number of millions to radiation. This catastrophic was the world's worst nuclear accident. After, 30 years and funding from over 40 countries there is still a massive amount of radioactivity in the air.

    The world's population is steadily moving to a greater number. By the second there is a baby born. With this continious movement the population of the world in 2100 will reach a mass of over 11 billion
  • Exxon Valdez Oil spill

    the incident occurred when an oil tanker on its way down from Alaska to California hit a reef. The spill did a lot of damage to the wildlife and the water.10.8 million Gallons were spilled.
  • Kuwaiti Oil Fires

    The Kuwaiti Oil Fires were caused by Iraq military forces who set fire to 605-732 oil wells. These fires began in January of 1991 and finished on November 6, 1991.

  • Kyoto Protocol

    This protocol was one which was spoken and addressed by the UN to reduce the amount of population in Kyoto. Having taken a rigorous path the protocol was finally passed in February 16, 2005. Its goal is to reduce the pollution caused by the countries that are responsible for a total of 55% of the global emissions.

  • Jilin chemical explosions

    the Jilin chemical explosions were a series of explosions at a chemical plant in china. The chemicals in the plant were released into the surrounding area causing 100 tons of chemicals to pollute the water.
  • Documentary Film, An Inconvenient Truth released

    The film by Al Gore was fixated on the idea of global warming and the re-energizing of the environmental movement. Watching the documentary, there were great examples; Kilimanjaro and Patagonia; showing that we have caused a catastrophic change in the world. This not only has caused ice to liquify it is causing enormous storms to develop into devastations. After this film many citizens of the world were able to understand the true threat of pollution on our natural inheritance.
  • Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

    On April 20, 2010, an oil rig by the name of "Deep Horizon" exploded and sank. The result was the death of 11 workers and injury of 17 others. About 4.9 million barrels of oil was released into the gulf, making it one of the largest offshore catastrophes ever recorded.

    The gold king mine waste water incident was the accidental spilling of waste water from the mine that contained toxic materials like lead and other things. This spill was 3 million gallons and polluted nearby waterways.
