It was not, however, in an airplane but in the O-9, one of the big submarines based at Coco Solo. The Lone Eagle was taken on a cruise around the harbor under a very choppy sea and it was said he showed a great deal of interest in the operation of the big undersea ship. The flying colonel was the guest of Captain Ward Wortmann, commandant of the submarine base."
