    Birth

Born on the 29th of April in Nancy, North Eastern France
  • Early Education

Henri Poincare was homeschooled in his early years by his mother after an illness left his larynx and legs paralyzed. He then moved onto schooling at a family friend's home before moving to the Lycee (French secondary school) in 1862. His mathematics teacher noticed his aptitude for mathematics and predicted that he would be a mathematician and a great one, "I wish to say a great mathematician" (Gray, 153).
  • Franco Prussian War

Henri served in the Ambulance Corps with his father during the conflict.
  • Secondary Education

Henri Poincare Attended the prestigious Ecole Polytechnique from 1872-1875 where he graduated and attended Ecole des Mines where he graduated with an engineering degree (Gray, 158).

    Prize Competition Differential Equations

Poincare forgot his mathematical paperwork while traveling and drafted an improvement to Fuchs's linear differential equation laid out on a non-Euclidean Disk (gray, 220). This discovery and improvement on Kleinian and Fuchs's mathematical models led to a new field in qualitative theory of differential equations which is the study of differential equations without solving them but observing their properties.

    Three Body Problem

The Three Body Problem is a problem that originated around the Earth, Sun and Moon and describes how three bodies interact with each other in a three dimensional plane. Poincare's work on differential equations and topology allowed him to lay the ground work for chaos theory and relativity using this as a model to theorize gravitational waves and the movement of objects.
  • Death

Jules Henri Poincare Died of a medical complication in July 1917 in Paris, France.
