Longino's first book, "Science as Social Knowledge", suggests that evidence or data by itself does not necessarily prove or disprove a hypothesis, it is only when human values and input deems what is or isn't relevant. Longino goes on to argue that when hypotheses can be upheld even under criticism from various angles does it become knowledge.
