This is the battle Truman speaks of in one of his "Letters to Bess."
He speaks of the absolute terror thinking they were all going to get gassed and trying to get gas masks on not only themselves but their horses as well. All the men were retrating but he somehow convinced them to return and fight using every swear word he had ever learned. -

Fortunately for the Trumans, the farm was purchased by some family friends and sold back to them several years later. This is a huge example of why Truman constantly advocated for farmers during all of his elected positions.
