    Hans Reichenbach's Birth
    Hans was born in Hamburg, Germany on 26 September 1891. He was the middle child with two brothers.
  • Formal Education

    Hans attended several universities. Stuttgart, Berlin, Munich, and ultimately receiving a doctorate from the University of Erlangen with is doctoral thesis Der Begriff der Wahrscheinlichkeit für die mathematische Darstellung der Wirklichkeit (The Concept of Probability for the Mathematical Representation of Reality). Following passing his final exams, he was conscripted to fight in the German Army signal corps.
  • Einstein

    During his service in WWI, Hans contracted an illness and was taken off the Russian front. Ultimately he was allowed to leave the service and return to his education while working in the radio industry in Berlin. While in Berlin, Hans attended Albert Einstein's lecture. The two met and became lifelong friends.

    Reichenbach took a teaching position at the University of Berlin. He was an influential leader who formed a group of scientific philosophy known as the Berlin Group. He and the group were popular, however with the rise of Hitler, the group was accused of promoting "Jewish Ideas." Reichenbach left for a position in Instanbul in 1933.

    Reichenbach was in Instanbul until 1938. With help from Einstein and other colleagues, he landed a position at UCLA.
  • The Rise of Scientific Philosophy

    Reichenbach most popular book. It was also his last. The book is noted for being the easiest to read and explores concepts of ethics and scientific philosophy.
