  • Doctorate philosophical aspects of theory of probability

In 1915, received his doctorate from the University of Erlangen for his thesis on philosophical aspects of the theory of probability. His thesis included philosophical and mathematical aspects of probability theory. He was unable to find one individual to accept his thesis, instead of finding one to accept the mathematical and one to accept the philosophical part. His thesis was published in 1916. This thesis has a continued influence on mathematics today.
  • Attended Einstein's first course on Relativity 1917

Attended Einstein's first course on Relativity 1917
Was one of five people to attend Einsteins' first course on relativity. This concept piqued his interest and he began a study of the philosophical aspects of space-time influencing the basis for his future works.
  • First major paper was published "Relativitatstheorie und Erkenntnis apriori"

Hans Reichenbachs first major paper was published "Relativitatstheorie und Erkenntnis apriori " which attacked Kant's synthetic a priori in that it should be relativized to a given time in a given theoretical context.
  • Founded the "Berlin circle"

Appointed to the chair of philosophy in physics at the University of Berlin in 1926 (backed by Einstein), he encouraged discussion and open debate of topics in his courses. Founding the Society for Empirical Philosophy (The Berlin Circle) in 1928 whose focus was analyzing physics and the theory of relativity.

    Fled Germany to Turkey

The rise of Hitler caused him to flee to Turkey due to Jewish descent and public views opposing socialism. He became head of Philosophy at the University of Istanbul from 1933-1938 and went on to publish Wahrscheinlichkeitslehre; eine Untersuchung über die logischen und mathematischen Grundlagen der Wahrscheinlichkeitsrechnung in 1935
  • Immigrated to the United States 1938

After his contract expired with the University of Istanbul he immigrated to the United States and worked as a professor at the University of California Los Angeles. Publishing Experience and prediction: an analysis of the foundations and the structure of knowledge in 1938 (written while in Istanbul)
