    Greg's sister Christa dies on her twenty-third birthday of epilepsy. Greg tried to honor his sister by climbing to the top of K2 and placing her amber necklace at the peak. This is an important event in Greg's because this was the turning point in Greg's life. He decided to climb to K2 to honor her and he got lost. Christa changed Greg's life.

    Greg starts his attempt to climb K2
    Greg started his goal of reaching the summit of K2 in June, 1993. He got lost on his way down (He didn't reach the top) and later arrived in the village of Korphe. This is an important event in Greg's life becuase he would've never gone to Korphe without his attempt to climb K2. His life woul've been totally different without his attempt to climb K2.
  • Greg gets money from Dr. Jean Hoerni

    Greg gets money from Dr. Jean Hoerni
    Greg gets all the money he needs to build a school from Dr. Jean Hoerni, a scientist and mountain climber. Greg got most of the money needed to build the Korphe school from Dr. Hoerni. This is an important event in Greg's life because Jean Hoerni gave Greg all the money that he needed to build the scool. He also turned out to be one of Greg's biggest supporters.

    Bridge Instead of a School
    Greg returns to Korphe with supplies to build a school. The people of korphe want a bridge. Greg goes back to America and gets supplies for the bridge from Dr. Hoerni and builds a bridge. This is an important event in Greg's life because this was the first step in completing his promise to Haji Ali that he would build a school for the village.

    Greg and Tara Bishop
    Greg meets his future wife Tara Bishop at a dinner. They got married six weeks after they met. This is an important event in Greg's life because he started a family with Tara. Together, they had two children.
  • Central Asia Institute

    Central Asia Institute
    Greg and Dr. Jean Hoerni started the Central Asia Institute to build schools in Central Asia. Greg is the director of the CAI and gets the money to build schools from the CAI. This is important in Greg's life because he became a leader and this organization helped Greg build all the schools that he has built to this day.

    Korphe School Finished
    Greg completed the Korphe school with the help of his friends in Korphe. This is important in Greg's life because he learned how to be patient with people and this was also the first school he completed. The Korphe school would be a bule print for all other schools that he made.
  • Jean Hoerni Dies

    Jean Hoerni Dies
    In January of 1997, the co-founder of the Central Asia Institute died of Leukemia. Jean Hoerni was an important person in Greg's life. He helped Greg build all of the schools Greg built by giving him money. Jean and Greg also founded the Central Asia Institute.
  • World Trade Center Bombed

    World Trade Center Bombed
    The World Trede Center was destroyed by Al Qaeda on September 11. September 11 is an important event in Greg's life because he was in northern Pakistan at the time. Pakistan was one of the countries that the U.S. came into for the war on terror. Greg responded to this action by saying that all Muslims weren't terrotists. This didn't go over well in the United States.
  • Haji Ali Dies

    Haji Ali Dies
    Gregs mentor, Haji Ali, died in Korphe. Greg found out that his mentor had died when he came back to Korphe after the September 11 bombings. This event is significant in Greg's life because Haji Ali was Greg's mentor. He taught Greg valuable lessons about patience and building relationships.
  • Greg builds more schools

    Greg builds more schools
    Greg builds schools in Afghanistan for girls all year. This event is improtant because Greg felt that girls were not given a fair oppurtunity to learn. Greg gave them the chance of a life time when he made schools in Afghanistan.
