  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    This was sited to be the start of the Cold War. It was a conference of the Big Three and they discussed Europe's post-war and the re-establishment of the nations of Europe.
  • Potsdam

    Potsdam
    The Soviet Union, United Kingdom, and United States were participants. They met to decide the postwar borders in Europe. Also, to finish the discussions from the Yalta Conference which had an effect on the Cold War.
  • Iron Curtain

    Iron Curtain
    Was a nickname used to refer to Communist nations of Europe. It decended across the continent to block itself and its satellite states from open contact with west and the non-Soviet areas. It was in effect until the end of the Cold War.
  • Truman Doctrine

    The United States would provide military and economic aid to countries threatened by communism. People often thought it was the start of the Cold War.
  • Division of Germany

    Allied powers that were divided in Germany. They were split into 4 zones. It caused conflict during the Cold War because those zones were seperated which caused problems between the zones.

    The United States gave economic support to help rebuild European economies after World War 2 to prevent the spread of Soviet Communism. It was a rescue program for many peopple during that time.

    The soviets blocked entrances to Berlin and cut off all Allied supplies to West Berlin. Which caused difficulty during the Cold War.

    Berlin Airlift
    Germany was split into four zones which caused problems with the Soviets. The Berlin Blockade had happened and to save food, coal, passengers, and other items they were airlifted out. The planes were all over the sky, up tp 32.

    The Soviet Plan to aid in rebuilding the Soviet bloc nations KGB Soviet secret police. It was an organization that was set up in response to the Marshall Plan.

    The United States and USSR competed in building nuclear weapons and the USSR exploded the first Atomic Bomb. That caused problems because then more powerful weapons were used.

    A war between South Korea and North Korea. It was primarily the result of the the political division of Korea. It was a conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union in the Cold War becuase they supported the two sides.

    Was a conflict against South Vietnam and the United States. It was a manifestation of the Cold War between the United States and Soviet Union and their respective Allies.

    He was the leader of the Soviet Communist Party until his death. After his death it caused temporary thaws in the Cold War tensions. Austira regained its sovereignty and became independent again.

    He was the Soviet leader after Stalin's death. His rule caused problems for the Cold War and culminating in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

    Said that south Vietnam falls to communism and other nations of far East Asia would fall like dominoes. It was a success to the United States during the Cold War.
  • NATO

    A military Alliance providing mutual help if attacked USA, Berlin, Canada, France, West Germany, Belgium, Italy, and Norway. It was the first peacetime military allince the United States entered.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact
    Military alliance of communist Block nations USSR, East Germany, Albania, Czech, Poland, Hungary, and Romania. It was a treaty during the Cold War.
  • Space Race

    Space Race
    It was a competition between USSR and United States for supremacy in spaceflight capability. They would launch satellites into the sky. On October 4, 1957 the Soviets won the first lap with "Sputnik 1." This helped many countries advance in technology for the war.

    Fulgencio Bastista the Cuban Dictator was over thrown and Fidel Castro's Communist forces seize control of Cuba. It happended during the Cold War which gave Cuba control.

    This happened during the Cold War and a United States U-2 spy plane was shot down over the airspace of the Soviet Union. It was another event that did not help the Cold War.

    Was the ability for the USA and USSR to destroy each other that was a method to avoid war. The Soviet Union had built nuclear arsenal that would be delivered to the USA and Western Europe.

    He was the first man to travel in space and was russian. He had the smile that lit up the Cold War.

    The United States attempted to invade Cuba and overthrow premier Fidel Castro. The weapons landed on the Bay of Pigs in Cuba causing problems. It took place during the Cold War because the United States was trying to prevent communism from taking hold in the Americas.

    The German Democratic Republic built the Berlin Wall to keep western fascists from entering East Germany and undermining the socialist state. That way people could not come in that were not welcomed. The wall stood until November 9 1989 because it was announced that citizens of GDR could cross the border.

    The USSR placed nuclear missiles in Cuban ships. The Cold War had come close to turning into a nuclear conflict and had caused mutual assured destruction.

    The Soviets led Afghan forces composed of alliances. It was a big event in the Cold War because it was the only time that the Soviet Union invaded a country outside the Eastern area.

    He was the President of the Soviet Union and introduced the policies of glasnor and perestroika to the USSR. He was leading during the Cold War.

    The INF treaty was the first Nuclear Weapons agreement between the United States and The Union of Soviet Socialists Republics to reduce aresenal weapons. Then that way less weapons could be used during the war leading to less deaths.
  • German reunification

    The German Democratic Republic Joined the Federal Republic of Germany to form the reunited nation of Germany. During the wars Germany was split apart so German reunification brought it together.
  • USSR Breakup

    USSR Breakup
    The breakup changed the whole world political situation. Which led to change in political, economic, and military alliances all over the world. This ended the Cold War.
