Nic Sheff's birth
Nic was born at dawn on July 20th 1982. This was a very emotional moment for his father David and his mother Vicki being their first and only child together. -
Divorce
Nic's parents get divorced when Nic is 5 years old. Before his parents get divorced while they're fighting Nic often gets scared but finds refuge in his stuffed panda bears. The agreement on Nic's custody is joined custody. This works out fine until Vicki moves 500 miles away to Los Angeles. Nic now is starting kindergarden and spens school years with David and summers with Vicki. -
Nic's childhood
David takes time off dating to spend time with Nic. They read together, watch movies together, go out playing together and David is a 100 percent fully commited father now while Nic is with him. -
Nic and Karen's realationship
At first, Karen and Nic are not the closest and things between them are a little awkward but Karen welcomes him with open arms. After Karen and David get married in May of 1990, Nic and Karen grow very close and begin to tease each other and have nicknames for each other. Karen does have some difficulties when disipling Nic as to how much is to much or not enough. -
Nic's drinking at Lake Tahoe
While confronting about the use of marijuana David finds out about Nic drinking at a ski trip in Lake Tahoe. David is shocked that he finds out so late. Nic hated his first time drinking and said he would never want to do it again. -
Jasper is born
When Jasper is born David and Karen try to make it as easy as possible for Nic. Nic loves and is fascinated by Jasper he loves to watch him and play with him. Nic gets a new group of friends around this time as well. Also since he is in seventh grade now he gains an intrest for girls and so do his new friends. Sometimes girls come over to play with Jasper and Nic. -
David first finds Nic with marijuana
One afternoon Nic is playing football with his friends when David finds a small bag of marijuana. This really affects David because he starts remembering his first time using and how it affected him. He deals with it like most parents would by confroting the invovled kids' parents and the school. He lets Nic off fairly easily this time. -
Nic's trasition from middle to high school
Ever since the marijuana incident Nic has been relatively good and has been focusing on his school work. He gets into a good highschool and seems like a normal kid. He makes friends and joins the swim team. He has a good relationship with his coach and makes his parents and Karen very proud at this point in time. -
Nic's trip to Paris
Nic goes on a three week trip to Paris for french class while he is doing great in school and David thinks it is great for him. When Nic comes back he looks very sick and has an ulcer. After this point everything seems to go downhill for Nic he holds his grades up until the end of college freshman year but this trip to Paris seemed to be a turning point for him. -
Nic goes missing
After moving home, one night Nic sneaks out and David gets a strange feeling and goes to check on him but he is not there. Nic is gone for four days and Jasper and Daisy begin to worry. David and Karen try to tell them everythings going to be alright but they too are scared. When Nic calls David he finds him immediately in an alleyway. David then makes the decision that Nic has to go to rehab. -
Nic's 28-day program
Nic, of course, does not want to attend rehab for the first time but David thinks a good one for him is Ohlhoff Recovery House in San Franscisco. David feels very good about this rehab center because it is highly recommonded program and parents whose children have gone to it say they are doing fine. A major problem though is that it is only a month program and Nic could possibly need more. -
Nic overdoses
One day early in the morning David recieves a phone call from Nic's step father saying that Nic has overdosed in Brooklyn. Nic is in critical condition and on life-support. Later that day David finds out he will be okay and is very relieved. -
Nic's 18 month soberity
Nic begins to sober up and starts making up to everyone he wronged. He writes a letter to Jasper saying how he is sorry and returns the money he stole from him as a sign. Whenever he has the chance to see his dad he does. -
David's cerebral hemorrhage
Nic is affected the most by David's cerebral hemorrhage once he finds out. Karen was affected a lot because she had to now do everything for the family while trying to visit David. When Nic was finally able to see him he stayed with him as much as he could but at this point David was feeling much better. Nic bolts into the hospital as soon as he can relieved to see his dad is fine. -
Nic's Relpases
After his 18 months of being sober NIc relapses and it hurts his dad a lot this time. Randy helps Nic out and is essentially his last lifeline but Nic doesn't seem to want help.
