Franz Joseph Haydn was born in the town of Rohrau, Austria.

From 1761 until 1790, Haydn was the musical director at Prince Paul Anton Esterházy's palace. Esterházy came from the wealthiest family in Hungary. Haydn was in charge of supervising and also composing music played in the palace. This job provide Haydn with financial stability, which he had not previously had.
