FDR had previously retired. While he was on vacation he had acquired polio. When asked if he would run for govenor he was unsure weather his body would be up to it. Which he did anyway.

With the Depression happening and many people believe Herbert Hoover to blame for most problems and FDR's running mate. FDR won by a landslide.

FDR presents the "New Deal"

After FDR's being sworn in he had what his party called "The first hundred days" March 8- June 16 which was the basis of his New Deal. It created programs like "
-ending the gold standard.
-FDIC
-civilian conservation corps.

FDR announces America Neutral

Although America was neutral FDR sent $50 billion of Military aid to the allies. Also he got congress to spend $252 million on armaments to protect against an army.

FDR wins presidential election again.

FDR directly fought with Germany without the consent of the congress. For most of 1941 AMerican and Germany fought and undeclared naval war.

FDR signs Executive Order 9066

Apr 20, 1942

Responding to fear of Japanese invasion FDR signed Executive Order 9066, Japanese Americans were given a week to dispose of their belongings and sent to encampments in the desert.

Depression ends.

The Depression ends because millions of Americans had been employed as soldiers, nurses, sailors, pilots, and mechanics on the war front. And Wartime production factories employed millions more.
