The Lion Cloth
The lion cloth is a continuous strip of material that covers the genitals by passing between the legs and tying at the waist. Sometimes in some styles the ends of the garment hang down in front and back of the body. -

The tilmati were mantles that consisted of a square or rectangle of cloth that was tied around the neck and hung down to anywhere between waist and ankle. -

The Sarape
This image shows a sarape, which was introduced to men during these times. They were typically worn like a South American poncho, which could be draped over the shoulders like a cloak. They consisted of various patterns and styles with vibrant colors and textile designs. -
The Shawl
The influence on women's clothing consisted of the introduction of the rebozo (shawl), as shown above, worn by Freida Khalo. It is a long and rectangular shape, and also made in various colors and patterns. This became a symbol of womanhood and nationhood. It has many uses for women such as offering protection from the sun and cold, along with carrying goods and infants. Freida Kahlo was frequently photographed wearing on and eventually became an important essential of her style. -
The Skirts
This image above shows the skirts worn by women during these times.Before the Spanish conquest, women wore wrap-around skirts held in place by a waist-sash.Some skirts are rectangular, while others are seamed to form a tube. When the skirt is put on it is a cloth arranged in a series of folds or pleats. In recent decades, wrap-around skirts have given way to skirts on waistbands. Freida Kahlo also played a role in making sure these traditional skirts stayed within the colonial time period. -
The China Poblana Dress
During the colonial style, the China Poblana style and charro suits also evolved the Mexican traditional clothing style. These outfits became very popular in the music industry along with the horse back riding men. The image in shows the China Poblana style, which is an outfit with an embroidered blouse and a sequined skirt.This outfit inspired women to wear more extravagant dresses and skirts. -
The Charro
The charro fits consist of men trousers being sewn with silver or brass buttons, which are placed close together up the side-seam of the leg; and these garments are also frequently ornamented by fancy facings on the back and legs. They also consisted of the famous sombreros, which were just fancy hats that matched the charro outfit.The image shows a famous mariachi singer known as Vicente Fernandez who always wore the famous charro fits. -
Modern Day Clothing
Th shows how women dress now in Mexico and how much it has evolved in the modern day. From the colorful, brightly patterned shirts, skirts, and dresses, to casual jeans and t-shirt attire. Now generations have taken over with the modern westernized clothing styles. It is clear that overtime the classic Mexico style has majorly evolved and changed completely because of all the textile patterns that are gone.
