    Maurice Richard was born on August 4th, 1921 in Montreal, Quebec. Maurice was the oldest of 8 siblings, making his family a very large one who stuck together and struggled through the depression. Despite all the struggles the family went through, they managed to give Maurice his first pair of skates, which he skated on local ponds where he started to realize his passion for Hockey.

    On March 13th 1955, in a game against the Boston Bruins, Maurice Richard was hit on the back of the head by a player from the opposing team and in return broke his stick on the players back. The punishment was a 3 game suspension and all the playoffs and the player who started it received nothing. This caused a riot because many fans believed the reason for this severe punishment was the fact he was a french speaking player.
