Phase 1
Phase 1: Gorbachew continued an anti-alcohol programme which his predecessor, Andropov, had started. The price of vodka was increased, the legal drinking age was raised from 18 to 21 and the hours of alcohol sales were reduced. He hoped this would discourage working people from drinking and thus improve the productivity and in turn increase industrial output. This campaign was very unpopular and it failed horribly. -
The beginning of the end
Mikhail Gorbachev became the leader of Russia. he wanted Russia to become better and more suited to the new world. There was 4 phases in his plan to make Russia better. He tied to make the communist goverment better by adding some democratic stuff. His plan eventually lead to the down fall of communism in Russia. -
Phase 2
Mikhail Gorbachev gave more independance to the bussinesses. Not a lot, he still had people that looked over them. Not many people actually liked this even though it gave them more freedom. They oppossed this and didn't like it. The workers were also incouraged to speak out against corruption or giving instruction. Also people were incourage to make small corporations like grocory store and saloons. -
Phase 3
In this phase he desided to change the goverment. He made it more like a democracy. He made like groups that vote for him. They were still controled by Mikhail Gorbachev so that he was more free from the communist goverment. -
Phase 4
This phase was a total fail. He was disorganized and Influenced by different people. He ignored the rules and people tried to kick him out. They failed, but he had no one that would trust him and he soon gave up the position. -
The Collapse
Through perestroika and glasnost most of Eastern Europe and the USSR began to want more freedom. They held strikes and riots to get what they want, because of this the communist goverment fell in Eastern Europe and The USSR (Russia) -
New Goverment
Now he was trying to bargin to get a new union. most people were still in shock about the USSR and did not trust him. His plan failed. -
Boris Yeltsin
Boris Yeltsin who is the new president Resisted Mikhail Gorbachev. He told the Russian people not to trust these plotters. So Mikhail's plan failed, because no one wanted to go against thier president.
