  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference

    This took place in a Russian resort town. This conference was to make important decisions for the future war progress. Some of the people that attended were U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin.
  • Potsdam Conference

    Potsdam Conference

    This was a meeting to discuss the terms for the end of WW2. This meeting was held in Potsdam, Germany.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine

    Truman asked for $400 million in military and economic assistance for Turkey and Greece. He did this to prevent Communism.
  • Creation of NATO

    Creation of NATO

    NATO stands for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It was created by the United States, Canada, and many Western European nations. It was created to provide protection against the Soviet Union.
  • Korean War

    Korean War

    This war started June 25th 1950 and ended July 27th 1953. This was between North Korea and South Korea.
  • Cuban Revolution

    Cuban Revolution

    This was a conflict that was social and armed, it was led by Fidel Castro. This was held to overthrow the Fulgencio Batista's government. This was because many Cuban people were not too happy with social and racial inequality and the corruption.
  • Space Race

    The Space Race was between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It was a race to see who could put the first man into space. The Soviet Union ended up getting there first.
  • Vietnam War

    The Vietnam War started November 11th and ended April 30th, 1975. The fight was between the U.S., South Vietnam, and North Vietnam. North Vietnam ended up wining.

    Suez Crisis

    The Egyptian government took over the Suez Canal from the British and the French. They did this because of money.
  • 1960 U-2 incident

    1960 U-2 incident

    This was when an American spy plane got shot down by the Soviet air space.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    Bay of Pigs Invasion

    This was launched by Guatemala, at first the attack almost went wrong. They were defeated within two days by Cuban armed forces.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis

    This lasted from October 16th - October 28th 1962. This was a a direct and a dangerous fight between the United States and the Soviet Union during the cold war.
  • Soviet-Afghan War

    Soviet-Afghan War

    This was the Soviet Union invasion of Afghanistan. This is what started the bloody, nine-year civil war.
  • Chernobyl Disaster

    Chernobyl Disaster

    This occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power station in the Soviet Union. An explosion occurred and destroyed the building and this let out large amounts of radiation into the atmosphere.
  • Fall of The Berlin Wall

    Fall of The Berlin Wall

    It was created to stop people from escaping to the West from East Berlin. It later fell and the East and West came together and celebrated.
