    Truman Doctrince
    Gave $400 million economic and military aid to Trukey and Greece. And stated that the US should support free people who were trying to stop takeover from minorities
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan
    The US gave $12.5 billion away to Europe. because the US wanted strong and stable governments in Europe so that communism wouldn't spread.The US was hoping that by passing the Marshall Plan that it would be enough to get Europe back on its feet. And this did work, by 1952 Communism wasn't as exciting as it had been. and most of Europe was booming.
  • NATO

    NATO
    NATO stands for, the North Alantic Treaty Organization, NATO was a military alliance that inclueded Western Europe, the US, and Canada. The Berlin Blockade (where the Soveit Union blocked allied access to their portion of Berlin) caused the Western European countries to fear Soviet violence.
  • China becomes Communist

    China becomes Communist
    When the China became Communist the US felt they had failed their efforts of containment, stoping the spread of communism. For 3 years the US tried to settle tht fued between the Nationalists and Communists in China. However, in May of 1949 the Nationalists fled to Taiwam marking the end of the civil in China. In the US this war caused even greater anti- Communist feelings in the American people.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    Communist North Korea decided to invade the South this feared many Americans due to the fact that China had already become Communist. The UN and US had sent troops to South Korea. When the Southe Koreans seemed to have control of all of Korea Chinese forces had flooded the borders. This caused the south to lose even more land. Eventually the two decided to sign a cease fire. However this war casued the Americans to fear Communist governments even more.
  • Rosenberg Case

    Rosenberg Case
    The Soviet Union had created an atomic bomb three years early than what Americans had predicted. Questions arose about how the Soviets figured it out so quickly. A British physicist admitted to leaking some informatioin to the Soviets. He also admitted that the Rosenberg's had played a part in the espionage. The two were found gulity and sentenced to death, which shows how strong feelings the US had towards the Soviets and Communist governments.

    Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact was a military alliance between Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Soviet Union. The alliance stated that the countries would help each other in case fo military attack form other countries. However the Soveit Union used this pact to gain control of other countries.
  • Castro Comes to Power

    Castro Comes to Power
    Castro had tried to run in an election to become a representative in the House of Cuba. However the Cuban dictator had stoped these elections. This caused Castro to create an uprising. His first revolt failed and Castro was sent to prison. It was easy for Castro to find followers because the citizens were fed up with the dictatorship rule. The last revolt consisted of guerilla warfare. When Castro came to power he tried everything he could do to get US influence out of Cuba.

    When Castro took power in Cuba American had secretly trained Cuban refugees in the US. During this Cuba had created an alliance with the Soviet Union. The US was hoping that by taking over Cuba it would mean a Cold War victory for the US. The invasion was a complete disaster with the refugees being greatly outnumbered, and the Cuban government had some proir knowledge of the invasion. This also caused the invasion to go bad. The victory of Castro left another country communist.

    Rise of the Berlin Wall
    After WWII Germany was divided into 4 zones. Three of the countries, including the US, were democracies. With the Soviet Union being the only communist country. The farther in to the Cold War the more hostilies grew. This caused the Germany to become a competion, dividing it into East and West. Berlin had also been split, the Soviet Union had created the wall to gain greater power and stop people from crossing over between East and West.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    The Cuban missile crisis involved the US, Cuba, and the Soviet Union. An American spy plane was flying over Cuba when they noticed the installation of a misslie. The Soviets had so many nuclear missles pointed at them, so they hoped that by put some in Cuba would even thing out. But these missiles were too close to the US for comfort. The missiles lead t even more tension between the Soviet Union, Cuban, and all other Communist governments.
  • Six Day War

    Six Day War
    The six day war in involved Middle Eastern countries, it was Israelies versus the Middle East. The war casued Israelies to gain the vital West Bank, Gaza Strip, Jersalum, Golan Heights, Sinai Pennisula. The behind the scenes activity was almost more important. Arab countries accused the US of supplying supplies to Israelies and the Soviets were supplying Arab countries creating more tension.

    War was going on in Vietnam long before the Vietnam War began. This was due to the Communist North Vietnam and Demorcratic South Vietnam. The US got involved in the war to stop the spread of Communism. American people were extremely against the war due to the high amount of causalities. The end of the war left Vietanam a Socalist government.

    A spokes person announced that people from East and West will be able to freely cross the wall as they please. The fall of the wall created excitement throught out the Germans, with celebrations throughout the country. The fall was a step in unifying Germany, and getting rid of a Communist government.

    The people in the Soviet Union were sick of the Communist ways and wanted a democracy. The collapse of the Soviet Union created 15 countries. Communist countries all over the world began to fall in seek of a democracy this eventually reached the Soviet Union.One by one small colonies declared their independence from the Soviet Union. The end of the Soviet Union meant the end of the Cold War and global tension.
