The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created shortly after World War II ended. The alliance contains 12 countries from the Atlantic and are all Non-Communist. -
China becomes Communist
China became Communist after the Communist party won the civil war in 1949. Mao Tse-tung, the new leader, needed allies to bring about a new China. He got help from the Soviet Union. They then formed a defensive treaty. -

There was a space race between the Soviets and the United States. This meant they were having a race to who could get to the moon faster. The first man on the moon was Neil Armstrong. He was from America and the United States got there first and put the flag on the moon. -

Also know as the Miracle on Ice. USA wasnt very good at hockey at the time and the Soviets were the top dogs. But USA took gold in front of the Soviets that took silver. USA beat Russia 4-3. -
German Reunification/Fall of Berlin Wall
The east German people, through their courage and non-violent resistance, unexpectedly brought down the Berlin Wall. -

The Soviet Union split up into 15 different countries. This transformed the entiere world political situation. It led to different political, economic, and military alliances.
