When Truman ordered naval and air support for South Korea Congress all cheered. On June 27, 1950, The UN Security Council called memebers to help the Republic of South Korea. In all 16 nations sent troops, some had 520,00 members, and over 90% were Americans. The War ended with a cease fire and there was never a peace treaty signed,

    Creation of The Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact is the treaty between Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the Soviet Union. It was a military treaty, which bound the nations to come to the aid of the others, should any one of them be the victim of foreign aggression. The Warsaw Pact was the response of NATO by teh Western Allies.

    The Vietnam War started in when Vietnam was spilt into two with Ho Chi Minh (Communist) incharge of the North, and the south run by Ngo Dinh Diem (Democratic). In August 1964, a US warship was attacked nu North Vietnamese torpedo boat in teh Gulf of Tonkin. After this attack Congress passed the Southeast Asia Resolution which allowed President Johnson to conduct military operations in the region without a declaration of war.

The Space Race involved pioneering efforts to launch artificial satellites, sub-orbital and orbital human spaceflight.

    Kennedy found out about the operation nine days after his election. On April 17, 1961, 1,400 cuban exiles landed on the southern coast of Bahia de Conchinos (Bay of Pigs). Nothing went as planned. An air strike carried out 2 days before the failed attempt of knocking out Cuban air forces. Castro turned the failed invasion into a public relation victory. The cuban media described it as a deveate of "North Americam mercenaries". Kennedy paid $53 million in ransom for food and medical supplies.

    The Berlin Wall was made to keep E German from fleeing to the West. At the end of WWII, the Allied powers divided Germany into four zones, each ruled by either the US, Great Britain, France, or the Soviet Union. The same was done with Berlin. The relationship between Soviet and the other three Allied powers became non exisitant, the cooperation turned competitive and aggressive. After the was the way of living in West Germany and East Germany were very diffferent so peole were leaving.

    The Cuban Missle Crisis was a 13 day long confrontaiton between Soviet and Cuba. This was the cloosest thing to a nuclear war the world had seen. The armed forces where at their highest state of readiness and Soveits were in Cuba ready to launch their missiles. The treat began to ease on October 28 when Khrushchev announced that he would return the missiles to the Soviet Union, saying he trusted that the United States would not invade Cuba.

    German Reunification/Fall of Berlin
    The German Reunification was the process where the German Demorcratic Repeblic joined the Ferderal Republic of Germany. This is also when Berlin became a single city. Germany started to fall when Hungary removed their border fence this brought a whole in the Iron Curtain.
