From August 1942 to February 1943, Germany fought the Soviet Union for control of the city. It is one of the bloodiest battles of the history of the war. Germany surrendered and lost 850,000. -
D-Day and the Normandy Invasion
Allies successfully established a beach head as part of Operation Overlord. This marked the beginning of the end for Germany. -

The final major offensive of WWII in Europe. Also known as the Fall of Berlin. It resulted in the suicide of Adolf Hitler.
