Between these years, O'Neill attended St. Aloysius Academy for Boys in 1895, then in 1900 attended La Salle Institute. Later attends Princeton University in 1906 for a year.

O'Neill marries Kathleen Jenkins in a secret ceremony and their marriage ripples due to Eugene's life at sea. They have a son together, named Eugene O'Neill Jr.
