Ernst Mach was an Austrian physicist born in Chirlitz-Turas, Moravia, in 1838. He was homeschooled until the age of 14 and went to college at the age of 17. In 1860 He gained his Doctorate in physics. He then proceeded to teach for 4yrs as a professor in mechanics and physics. His well-known accomplishments however don't begin to take shape till a good deal later on in his life.

Was a series of articles on how the effect of spatial distributions of the light stimulus interacts with the retina. Which revealed how optical illusions worked on the eye and the connections of perception in relation to the eyes and brain. -
In 1866 he was appointed a professor of physics at the University of Graz, where he was then made a chair of experimental physics at Charles-Ferdinand University
