  • The Doppler effect contribution

    The Doppler effect contribution
Ernst Mach published his report titled “ On the Change of Color and Tone by Movements”. In this report he accurately produced the Doppler effect in a laboratory. Many physicist’s disproved and did not accept the Doppler effect. So Ernst Mach created a simple tube apparatus to prove the formula’s correctness. The tube would transmit sound waves in it and move away from the observer, as the tube moved away the sound frequencies would change.
  • Mach Bands and human senses

    Mach Bands and human senses
During his studies on human senses he set out to discover the inner working of the ear. He created a chair fixed on two perpendicular axis. This chair is very similar to the instrument we use to train astronauts today. During his experiments on the human eye he discovered what we call now “Mach bands”. When a dark colored bar moves close to a lighter colored bar, little bands of darker bands show up on the dark bar and bands of lighter on the light bar.
  • Mach Number

    Mach Number
Ernst Mach during his study of fast moving objects in a gas, he successfully photographed the first picture of a shockwave in front of a object moving faster than the speed of sound. He found there was a bow shockwave in the front of the object and a shockwave in the back of it. This relation led directly to the formula for Mach speed or “Mach number”. This formula is the speed of an object moving through a gas divided by the speed of sound in that same gas.
  • Mach Principle

    Mach Principle
His hypothesis was that inertial forces experiencd by a body in non uniform motion is determined by the quantity and distribution of matter in the universe. This would later on be used by Einstein as his foundation of his theory of relativity. To put it simply, the movement of the stars and mass in the universe affects us on earth (big effects little).
