    On November 16, 1901, Ernest Nagel was born in Nové Mesto, Bohemia. Today, the region is associated with Czechoslovakia. By the age of ten, he immigrated to the United States of America. After finally acquiring citizenship in 1919, he pursued higher education. Eventually, this would lead him to Columbia University, which was a significant association for over forty years (National Academy of Sciences 257).

    Ernest Nagel Employed at Columbia University

    After receiving his master’s degree in philosophy and his Ph.D in philosophy from Columbia University, he remained at the university as a staff member for many years (National Academy of Sciences 257). The National Academy of Sciences notes that he remained actively involved in the philosophical and intellectual realms of Columbia University long after his retirement (257).
  • An Introduction to Logic and Scientific Method

    Ernest Nagel is especially known for his collaborative work with Morris Cohen. In 1934, they produced the textbook, An Introduction to Logic and Scientific Method. It was a book that taught the concept of combining philosophy and mathmatic/ or scientific theories in both philosophical and scientific analysis (Suppes 821). That is to say that, he found balance in viewing things through both school's of thought to avoid bias.
