    Ernest Nagel born November 16, 1901 in Nove Mesto, Bohemia, Austria Hungry. Migrated to The United States of America in 1911 and received his citizenship in 1919. Earned bachelors in science social studies from the City College of New York City. Earned a masters and doctoral degrees from Columbia University in 1925 and 1931. Taught Philosophy at Columbia University from 1931 to 1970.

    Introduction to Logic and Scientific Method
    In 1934 Ernest Nagel co-published a book called "Introduction to Logic and Scientific Method" with co-worker Morris R. Cohen. Stressing the importance of hypotheses when researching. This book went on to be very popular all the way into the 1950's.
  • Structure of Science

    Structure of Science
    1961 he wrote his most famed book "Structure of Science" where he identified obstacles in logic through forms of scientific explanation. The types of scientific explanation were: Deductive, Probabilistic, Teleological, and Genetic (historical).
  • Later years

    Later years
    In 1978 Ernest Nagel was elected into the National Academy of Sciences which was not common for Philosophers. Unfortunately he passed away in 1985 via Pneumonia and was buried in South Wardsboro, Vermont.
