    Ronald Reagan makes a speech in Florida discussing the Soviet Union and referred to communism as "the focus of evil in the modern world". Know as the "evil empire speech", it was delivered the "nucular freeze" debate, which attempted to put an end to the Soviet Unions production of nucular weapons.

    As Communism began to falther in neighboring countries, new escapes routes began to open up in East Germany for those who were looking to flee to the West. Then in 1989, an East German offical by the name of Gunter Schabowski announced "Permant relocations can be done through all border checkpoints between the GDR (East Germany) into the FRG (West Germany) or West Berlin". The walls were chipped away until eventually falling completely in 1990.
