  • Elvis returns to Memphis with Red West, to begin a 5 day tour with Johnny Cash, rising star David Houston and others. In the evening he performs at the High School Auditorium, Charleston, MS.

    p.m. Local paper Folk Music Fireball talks about Elvis and says he “seems to have a natural instinct of rhythm with a qualitatively unique voice, from which he benefited from childhood, accompanied daily by country music and the blues of the Negroes".

  • Elvis arrived at the RCA studio at McGavock Street. He worked from 2.00 tot 10.00 p.m. and recorded his first sides for his new label. Some musician from the studio played along with Elvis

    Chet Atkins on guitar, Floyd Cramer on piano and D.J.Fontana on drums. They recorded Heartbreak Hotel, I Got A Woman and Money Honey. But everyone agreed: they didn't catch the sound Elvis wanted. There is too much echo effect and the sound is nothing like Sam Philips had created in the Sun studios. Elvis was very disappointed.

    Texas at 3.00 and 8.00 p.m. On this 6 day Hank Snow tour, Elvis was billed as "RCA Victor's newest singing sensation" but this was the last time he was booked as a supporting act. He received $1,800 for the entire tour. While Elvis was in San Antonio he visited D.J. Fontana's aunt and uncle in their restaurant. There for he missed a cocktail party held in his honor with Bob Neal and the Colonel. Later he was reminded by them of his professional obligations

  • Elvis performed at the Memorial Auditorium, Wichita Falls, Texas at 7.00 and 9.00 p.m.

  • NORTH SIDE COLLISIUM CONCERT

  • LOUSIANA HAYRIDE

    Elvis performed at the Louisiana Hayride, Municipal Auditorium, Shreveport. Since Bob Neal had a new radio job he could not participate in the upcoming February tour and this marked the end of his official association with Elvis. The Colonel was now in full control of all aspects of Elvis ' career.
  • ELVIS AND RED WEST FLEW SHREVPORT TO MEMPHIS

  • HOME IN MEMPHIS & REHEARSALS FOR STAGE SHOW

  • Elvis and his manager Colonel Tom Parker flew first-class from Nashville to New York City. They stayed at the Warwick Hotel and they had dinner at the Hickory House Restaurant.
