Born on the Summer Solstice to Mr & Mrs Adams (nee Douglas). The covens of both parents cast a joint curse on the family line, bringing great misfortune to anyone born of either twin. The twins are raised in the magical community of Runewick, their mother running a shop in Spellbound and their father on the faculty of the Academy.

It was realised during a family trip to Spirit Lake, at the base of Mt St Helens. The trip was cut short when steam began to spew from the mountain looming above. Since then, Cain has been restricted by order of the coven from visiting the Cascade Range without experienced supervision, and to only do so for practising his talent.
