He was only given a one day preliminary enquiry and it was already decided there was enough evidence to proceed with the charges, even though as we now know he was innocent

The trial only lasted three days and they deemed him guilty. He was then only 17 and was sentenced to life.

11 years later he was released from prison at age 28, beacuse another witness came froward saying he didn't commit murder. It took almost another year for him to be acquitted.

He was Acquitted in 1983 by the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal.

Six years after receiving his first settlement Donals Marshall received another $1.6 million in damages for being wrongfully imprisoned.

Donald Marshall wsa arrested and convicted for catching and selling eels without a licence which led him to fight for his tribes original Mi'kmaq treaty .

The Supreme Court upholds the original treaty; that was signed in 1760; with the Mi'kmaq Nova Scotia Indians to catch and sell fish.

Donald Marshall died when the lung transplant he recieved in 2003 developed complications in 2009.
