In 1793 Dolley has her second son named William Isaac Todd. William died at 3 months old due to fever epidemic and died the same day as his father, John Todd Jr.

In the 1808 election, James was chosen as a democratic candidate. He was elected for two terms, 1809 to 1812, 1812 to 1817.

In the year of 1830, Dolley's son John Payne Todd had gone to debtor's prison in Philadelphia.

Dolley's husband, James Madison dies in the year of 1836. A few months earlier he had become very sick. He died at Montpelier, their home in Virginia.

Dolley decides to move back to Washington D.C.. Dolley moves back in with her sister, Anna and her brother in-law, Richard Cutts. The house was located on Lafayette Square.

In July 1849, Dolley became fatally ill. She remained in bed for 5 days. On Thursday, July 12th, she died.

Dolley's funeral was a state event. The president, cabinet officers, diplomatic corps, house and senate members, the justices of supreme court, officers of the army and navy, the mayor and city leaders, along with citizens attended her funeral.
