Theodor Schwann found that animals are made up of cells. Schwann and Matthias Schleiden helped develop the first part of the Cell Theory because they found that plants and animals contain cells along with all other living things. Anton and others also found that cells are the basic units of structure/function in living things. The last part of the Cell Theory was discovered by Rudolph Virchow when he found that all cells come from existing cells.
