  • Birth and young life

    Daniel Clement Dennett III was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 28th, 1942. He was first introduced to philosophy at summer camp when he was eleven. Since then he knew he wanted to pursue a career in the field, and so he did. In 1965, Daniel Dennett received his doctorate in philosophy and began teaching.

  • First of Many Works

    Daniel Dennett is an American philosopher and writer known for his research on the philosophy of the mind, philosophy of science and philosophy of biology (particularly in evolutionary biology and cognitive science) (Jan, 2018). His first book was published in 1990; about the evolutionary debate on the differences between a human and an animal mind, and how free will is like-minded with a naturalistic view of the world (Dec, 2018).

  • Robot Called Cog

    In 1993, Daniel Dennett was a part of a team from the Massachusetts Institute of technology that tried to construct intelligent, and possibly conscious, robot called Cog (Dec, 2018).

  • Darwin’s Dangerous Idea

    In 1995, Daniel Dennett published his book Darwin’s Dangerous Idea. His criticized Darwin’s theory that natural selection was a mechanical and algorithmic process (Jan, 2018). This book rose through the ranks and was eventually nominated for the 1995 National Book award and the 1996 Pulitzer Prize for general non-fiction (Jan, 2018).

  • Four Horsemen of New Atheism

    For his many works Daniel Dennett is popularly recognized as one of the “Four Horsemen of New Atheism" (Jan, 2018). His views were much like other atheist activists like Christopher Hitchens, Richard Dawkins, and Sam Harris; which dubbed them the nickname (Dec, 2018).
