    NATO Established as a defensive against the Soviet Union and its Eastern Europe allies. “It was a defensive system against the Soviet Union” and its allies so that communism wouldn’t spread. But as the cold war started to die down the Soviet began to unravel meaning they started getting weaker (NATO).
  • Potsdam Conference

    On July to August 1945, The Potsdam conference discussed settlements for europe but didn’t attempt to write peace treaties. It was an interest of the allies that the German people be given the opportunity to prepare for the eventual for the eventual reconstruction of their life on a democratic and peaceful basis.
  • Truman Doctrine

    Paragraph: On March 12th of 1947, The pronouncement of U.S. President Truman, declaring immediate economic and military aid to the government of Greece. This was because greece was threatened by communist insurrection and Turkey under pressure from Soviet expansion in the Mediterranean area. Therefor, Great Britain could no longer afford to aid those in the Mediterranean countries (Truman Doctrine).
  • Korean War

    On June of 1950, North Korea and South Korea fought the Korean war. This happened because “The United States and others feared that communism would spread to other countries”. The UN wanted to put the back together but the Soviets didn’t allow the people in their section. So because of this Korea Divided into two separate countries (Korean War).
  • Vietnam War

    :In 1954, Vietnam was split into two, North and South. This was because Northern Vietnam wanted to reunite the community under communism. Due to the the war over 1.3 million soldiers and 58,000 U.S. troops were killed. Also more than 2 million citizens died (Vietnam War).
  • Warsaw Pact

    In 1956, The Soviet Union invaded hungary. The Soviet did this because they wanted to stop the Hungarian Revolution. Because of this Nagy was executed for treason in 1958 (hungarian war).
  • Suez Crisis

    On July 26th 1956, the International crisis in the middle east precipitated when the Egyptian President nationalized the Suez Canal. This happened because the crisis had been provoked by an american and british decision not to finance Egypt’s construction of the Aswan High Dam.
    So Britain and France planned military action to regain control of the canal, and possibly depose Nassar
    (Suez Crisis).

    On the 4th of October 1957, the Soviet launched the Earth’s first artificial satellite. They were trying to work on developing new technology because the U.S. were “falling behind”. Due to them falling behind, and arms race started and a “raise in Cold war tensions” (Sputnik Milestones)
  • Cuban Revolution & Missile Crisis

    Cuban Revolution & Missile Crisis
    In October 1962 The leaders of the Soviet Union engaged in a 13 day political and military standoff. This was because of an “installation of nuclear armed Soviet missiles on Cuba”. So Soviet Premier Khrushchev sent a message to President Kennedy saying he will remove the missiles if the U.S. promises not to invade Cuba (Cuban Missile Crisis).
  • Glasnost/Perestroika

    Glasnost/Perestroika
    In the mid 1980’s Perestroika associated with the program instituted in the soviet to restructure political and economic policy.They intended it to be a program of moderate and controlled reform that would revitalize the stagnant soviet economy. So Gorbachev decentralized economic controls and encouraged enterprises to become self-financing (Perestroika)
