The united states thought they would alaways have an advantage over any country since they had atomic bombs that worked. So when they heard that the soviets succesfuly tested one the united states was deeply shocked. -
The Korean War starts
This is when a war started between the north and south side of korea while this may not be the US vs the Soviet Union it was democratic vs comunism. With the norht side being communist and the south side being democratic the norht wanted to make korea a whole and started a war while we backed up south korea to make sure that atleast some of south korea would be democratic. -

The korean war ends while no one offically won the war the war came to a standi still which marked the end of the war. After the war ended the korean penusila was dived up into 2 again along the 38th parallel and with the north side being communist and the south side being democratic. -

The Warsaw Pact is formed by 8 communist countries in response to America making NATO. -
The Soviet Union Launches First man made satlite
The Soviet Union launches a satlitle into space called sputnik 1 and started the space race between out two countries. This would also cause more American civilians to become scared of the Soviet Union. -

End of Cold War and Fall of the Soviet union
This marks the end of the cold war and the fall of the soviet union. on This day is when the soviet union finally collapses and now since there is no soviet union means that the Cold war ends. With the fall of the sopviet union many countries now declare independace from russia to become democratic states.
