  • The Berlin Blockade and Airlift

    An international crisis that arose from an attempt by the Soviet Union. This was a turning point in post WWII.
  • Another Crisis in Berlin

    Tens of thousands of Germans left their country by crossing East Berlin to West Berlin. To stop this exodus, German guards would shoot Germans trying to cross.
  • Korean War

    This began when communist North Korea invaded non-communist South Korea. The United States came to South Koreas aid.

    African Americans made major advantages in the postwar era. People like Martin Luther King Jr. made great changes for the African Americans regarding racism.

    Egypt was angered by the West taking over the Suez Canal. After Britain, France, and Israel attacked Egypt, the Soviet Union threatened to fight on Egypt's side.

    Rebels overthrew Cubas dictatorship and installed a. Communist government. American officials believed the Bay of Pigs Invasion would start a massive Cuban uprising against Castro.

    Canada underwent many of the same economic and social changes as the U.S. The economy provided many jobs, and birthrates rose.

    Richard Nixon sought what he called detente. One result of his efforts was the start of negotiations known as the Strategic Arms Limitations Talks.
