  • Berling blockade and airlift

    Berling blockade and airlift
    The change of establishing a new currency caused chaos due to people struggling to adapt to the changes, mostly when the soviets cut off roads and reach to water. This was also when the U.S and British planes supplied berlin with about 1.5 million tons of supplies each day with airplanes coming back day and night.
  • Korean War

    Korean War
    After WWII, Korea was divided by the U.S pushing Korea to the south and Russia/china to the north, the two countries were divided at 38th parallel to avoid any buffer between the two. The U.S soon intervened helping the south push back up to the Chinese border, the Chinese fought back pushing back down to the 38th parallel, soon in 1953 they signed an armistice leaving the U.S the win. This was one of the united states first won battle against the soviet.
  • Space Race

    This is where the U.S and the soviets had an intense rivalry about space and who was able to get the furthest first. The soviets started in the win with the sputnik. As they kept competing, it brought them together and made the international space station. It was the start of a great serious of leaps in space technology and not only has this event changed cold war but it is also how we live today.
  • U-2 Reconnaissance Plane

    U-2 Reconnaissance Plane
    In this event the U.S had a plane sent to try and spy on the soviets. The soviets shot down the plane calling the flight an aggressive act.this event was a huge deal in the U.S due to the soviets holding down one of their men, it caused outrage. Because of this event the serious tension between the soviets and the U.S kept rising.
  • Bay Of Pigs

    Bay Of Pigs
    Kennedy inherited a CIA campaign to train and equip of guerilla army of Cuban soldiers, he did not want the soviets to take it as an act of war. However, the CIA kept the involvement in the invasion a secret. The invasion was a disaster due to Cubans being steps ahead, this was a huge embarrassment to the U.S.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    A U-2 plane flying over Cuba discovered nuclear missile sights under construction, these missiles had a chance to get to the united states. Kennedy discovered it was a group know as excomm, few days later ordered a naval block of the U.S military forces to DEFCON 3. The U.S and soviet unions tension increased until spring of 1963 the U.S quietly removes the missiles from turkey that equally threatened the soviet union. This crisis regarded the closest the world has come to a nuclear exchange.

    SALT were two rounds of bilateral conferences and corresponding international treaties involving the united states and soviet union. The two rounds of talks and agreements were SALT I and SALT II.
  • Non-Proliferation Treaty

    Non-Proliferation Treaty
    The treaty of non-proliferation was an international treaty who's objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament. Countries started signing the treaty in 1968 and came into effect in 1970.
  • Soviets Invade Afghanistan

    Soviets Invade Afghanistan
    The nine year soviet war in Afghanistan lasted from December 1979 to February 1989. It was fought between soviet-led afghan forces against multi national rebel groups called the mujahideens. The decade long war resulted in millions of afghans fleeing their country, mostly to Pakistan or Iran. Hundreds of thousands of afghans were killed in addition to the participants in the war.
  • Reunited Germany

    Reunited Germany
    In a press conference in November 9, 1989 GDR central committee spokesman guenter schabowski unintentionally announced that citizens were able to travel to west Germany immediately. It was beginning of the end for east Germany.
