    Western leaders planned to establish a democratic government in West Berlin. The Soviets blocked all land, rail, and water routes into West Berlin. Westerners decided to supply Berlin by air, creating the Berlin Air lift.

    The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union over the installation of Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba. After two weeks, Soviets removed the missiles under the condition that the United States agreed to remove US missiles from Turkey, and promised not to attack Cuba.
