    Stalin lead the Soviet Union in 1939. He signed a non-aggression pact so he wouldn't have to go against Germany. In 1940, he invaded Lithuania and Finnland.

    Unitied Nations
    The United Nations formation was a turning point in history as it replaced the League of Nations as the largest international group in the world to work to stop wars between countries and provide a platform for national dialogue. In 1942 the United Nations was formed to fight the axis powers.
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower

    The gereal that led the invasion into Germany on July 10, 1943. He had catputred the western half of the island.

    The US policy attempting to prevent communism abroad.

    A policy set by Harry Truman saying that Greece and Turkey would have support from the U.S. economically and militarily in order to prevent them to fall to Soviet sphere.

    McCarthy is a senator who spread McCarthyism by accusing people of supporting or believing in communists ideas. He was famous for his constant accusing people of communism and his "list" with every communist spies name.
  • Berlin Airlift

    Berlin Airlift
    The Berlin Airlift was a way that let the US help supply Berlin, without provoking a war with the USSR. The Soviets had cut all the supply lines to the city, so the US needed another way to get supplies into the city.
  • Marshall Plan

    A plan to help aid Europe finacially after WWII and help them recover. The program lasted 4 years, in that time the US donated 13 billion dollars.
  • Mao Zedong

    First chairman of the communist party of China. Moa led multiple uprisings asaints the Chinese government until it was over thrown.
    Chairman Mao contiued to lead China until 1976.
  • N.A.T.O

    A military and political alliance between 28 countires. In contained 12 countries: US, Canada, France, Italy, Britain, Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Luxenbourg.
  • Korean War

    North and South Korea go to war after their division. North Korea is aided by communist powers China and the Soviet Union while South Korean is aided by the US.Years later a DMZ was made between the two, endign the war.

    The US let West Germany rearm and then join NATO. In response, Soviet leaders organized a military alliance, The Warsaw Pact.

    A civil war begining in Vietnam. North Vietnam was aided by communist allies including China and North Korea. The Vietnam allowed the American public to witness the true horror of war, bieng at it was photogrpahed and recorded on video for the first time, The warl asted 20 years.

    A 13 day confrontation between Cuba and the Soviet Union on one side and the US on the other. The soviet Union tried to move nuclear weapons closer to the US thorugh Cuba.

    Took power after EKnedy was killed. Focused on creating his version of the " Great Society"/ This included many anti-poverty and pro-civil rights bills.

    1965, the year Harry Truman became president after Roosevelt died. It was hard for him to adjsut at first becuase he needed to jump right into the ocnflict with Japan.

    Reagan ran in the 1980 election, and stepped into office january 20, 1981. His campaign really appealed to those who were frustrated with the ecnomy becuase he promised to cut taxes and increase defense spending.

    Gorbachev was the last leader of the Soviet Union. He believed that he had to fix the Soviet Unions economy or else it would collapse. They could not afford an arms race with the US, so Gorbachev met with Reagan in a series of meetings. Reagan offered peace if Gorbachev tore down the Berlin Wall.

    A political scandal in the US were officials secretly sold arms to Iran. In exchange for the weapons, Iran released American hostages being held in the Middle east.
