    The Truman Doctrine
    The Truman doctrine was to support Greece and Turkey. Before it was Britain who was taking care of Greece but since WW2 Britain put the torch in the US hands. Arguments were made during that time but Truman didnt want either of the countries to fall to communism. It was then decided thataid would be sent to Greece and Turkey but no miltary would be sent.

    The Marshal Plan
    The Marshall plan went through a rough time getting passed. It was to help those in Europe and offer aid where needed. Western Europe accepted this, while The Soviet Union wanted no help from the United States. Between the time of 1948 to 1951 Western Europes economy grew gradually. The reason why the Soviet Union did not accept the Marshall plan was that it made it look weak.

    On April 4 1949 the North Atlantic treaty was signed and thus Nato was created. The Treay of Brussels was a treaty that set what the North Atlantic treaty was about. It was that and also the Berlin wall which was able to get the North Atlantic te=reaty signed which created NATO.

    On this day the north Koreans sent out to invade south korea. The south was caught offguard and nearly was all conquered. The americans soon joined and turned the war around and took nearly all of the north over. When that had happened china feared that the us would then invade china so it sent its forces to help the north koreans in the fight. The fighting ened on july 27 1953 and then the US forces pulled out but that didnt mean the war was over, technially the war is still going on.

    The fighting in Vietnam began before 1955 but this is when the US entered in and the war began. Troops were pouring in to take vietnam and get it away from the communist rule it had. in 1960 the north Vietnamise announcued that they would take the south from the american imperialism.

    When sputnik was launched it sent a bad message to the US and sparked the start of the space race. Americans all over the US were in pure shock when they seen it fly over the country. The government then sent out projects to do the same as the soviets. The answer to this was to 1 up the soviets and try to send a man to the moon.

    When Nikita cam he also brought his family with him. It started when Nixion invited Nikita to the US which he accepted. He was intrigued by all that he saw when he came to the US and wanted some ideas over in The Soviet union. Nikita was hoping to be on good terms with eisenhower but eisenhower was not impressed.

    The Bay of Pigs invasion was to kick castro out of power. It started with us bombers taking out the airfields. the next day the main force went on land and attempted to take castro out. What happened was that three days after it started it ended. This was an embaressment to the US and let castro improve ties with the soviet union.

    On this day The Berlin wall was erected. It split Germany into 2 serperate areas East and West Germany. The East was controlled by the Soviets while the West was controlled (not really controlled just occupying) the US and NATO. The wall was constructed by the Soviets because so many of the citizens of the east side went over to the west side.

    This all started when a spy plane was launched and noticied that there were secret missile bases over cuba. Kennedy met with some of his advisors about this and wanted to find a solution to this problem. It was when kennedy finally decided to make this public that the leader of the Soviet union noticied that a nuclear war was not the way to go. They met and the Soviet union got rid of their missile fields on cuba.

    This was a day people in america would never forget but conspiarcies would spark all over. in response to the Soviets lanuching Sputnik The US planned to put a man on the moon. It was all over the news at the time and people were cherring all over the US when a man was on the moon. When neil was out of the pod he said the famous line "thats one small step for mankind, and one giant leap for mankind".

    What this was intended to do was for the US to be on better relations with China. What Nixon hoped to achive had happened with his visit. The leader of china at the time, Mao Zedong, wanted a meeting with the president when he landed. When Nixion came back to the US he stated that "that was the week that changed the world".

    Through the years since it went communist power was beginning to falter. On the night of November 9 the leader of East Germany announced that the borders were open. In hours the wall was coming down and all around Germany people were celebrating. It took sometime to get the wall down but when it was finished East and West Germany finally joined back up to become Germany once again.

    The soviet Union was facing growing problems in 1985. The reason of the problems were the introduction of Glasnost and perestroika. Glasnost is the intro of freedom of speech in the Soviet union. Perestroika is an econmic reform that was to become a reality in the USSR. The last leader of the soviet Union wanted to see these plans come to fruition but what it caused was pent up emotions from the people. Thus from this ended the reign of the Soviet union.
