  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference
    Yalta Conference was a war time meeting held by heads of government of US, United Kingdom and Soviet Union. This meeting dicussed post-war reorganization in Europe. After a couple of years of this meeting thats when the Cold war started up because of Joseph Stalins refusal to have free votes.

    Nuclear Arms Race
    Nuclear arms race started in 1945 but when on for many years. It was a competion is nuclear warfare between United states, soviet union and their allies. Countries were trying to build and make more nuclear weapons then everyone else and was scared someone could attack them at any time.

    Leader of USSR was Joseph Stalin, the leader of united states was many people as in Eisenhower, Nixon, Truman, Kennedy and Johnson.
    The leader of Cuba was Fidel Castro, the leader of Vietnam was ho chi hung.

    Postdam Conference

    The meeting was held after WWII and also At the meeting the head of the governments from the United States, United Kingdom and Soviet Union. The goals of the conference were to discuss post-war order, peace treaty issues and countering the effects of the war.
  • UN created

    UN was a group and organization that tried to stabilize and keep world peace. It was created after world war two and replaced the league of nations. This helped stop wars between countries and keep all countries safe.
  • Communist takeover in Cuba

    Communist takeover in Cuba
    Fidel Castro was the head of the takeover in Cuba. He was a strong communist and completely cut off connection to the United States. United States tried to overthrow him in the Bay of Pigs but it was unsuccessful.
  • Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine was put together by president Harry Truman in a speech. The Truman Doctrine stated that we would give aid to Greece and Turkey for military and economic aid. We also hoped it would prevent the fall into communist hands.

    Red Scare

    The second red scare occured after WWII and even through it does not have exact dates when it started and ended it lasted about ten years. It was popularly known as "McCarthyism", named after the senator Joseph McCarthy who falsly accused people of being communist. It increased fear through out the United States.
  • Hollywood 10

    The Hollywood 10 involved 10 members of the film industry when asked if they wanted to talk about the communist refused to talk about it. They said it was there right not to have to talk about it and they were charged with being communist.
  • HUAC

    Stands for the House Un- American Activities. This committee was involved in anti- communist investigations who were involved with Joseph McCarthy. They investigated the people who were said to be communist and decided who was communist and who were not.

    Berlin Blockade/ Airlift

    Berlin Blockade was Soviet Unions attempt to block out allied powers after WWII and to stay communist. In June the United States and Britian began to supply the country with food and supplies to stay alive. In May the Soviet Union lifted the blockade. This showed that we would not give up and really did care about the innocent people in countries.
  • Marshall Plan

    Marshall Plan was created to help recover European nations. United States created the marshall plan to help rebuild european nations economies after WWII. This plan also gave us hope that with the US helping out countries that they will not give into communist countries.
  • NATO

    NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO is an agreement amoung countries saying if one country is attacked by any external party then all countries involved in NATO will come the aid.
  • Communist Takeover in China

    Communist Takeover in China
    The communist took over China October 1, 1949. The communist were led by Mao Zedong. This takeover would change the global balance forever. This made Soviet Union have a huge ally on there side.

    Korean War

    The Korean War started when North Korea communist army and all the communist crossed over the dividing line called the 38th parallel attacking South Korea. It was Kim II- sung who led the army to invade the non-communist country. US forces tried to hold off North Korea army in the southern tip of Korea. With all of US, UN and South Korea army the North Korea army was no match for us. Eventually signing a treaty, returning Korea to the divided sides once again.

    CIA
    The CIA was a big part of the cold war, the Soviet atomic project was the focus of the CIA. We needed alot of information about the nuclear war that we did not have which is why the CIA was created. CIA helped during the cuban missile crisis and foreign policy.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Warsaw Pact was created in response the NATO and involved 8 communist states during cold war. It also said that if attacked by any out side country the countries who signed warsaw pact would come to the aid. It was created by Soviet Union.

    The space race was a competition between Soviet Union and the United States in space exploration. The cold war forced a rivarly between the two countries. USSR started with first satelite in space called sputnik and then United States landed first man on the moon. NASA was created by US to help get man on moon.

    The Vietnam war was the longest military battle in US history. It was fought by communist North Vietnam and US supported South Vietnam. US intervention was influenced by the domino theory, thinking that if Vietnam became communist other countries would too. Ended with North Korea taking over and becoming communist.
  • U2 Crisis

    Occured when President Eisenhower was in office. U2 crisis was when United states plan was shot down over the airspace in soviet union.
  • Bay of Pigs

    Bay of Pigs
    Bay of Pigs was an unsuccessful attempt by the United States to overthrow the Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. The invasion plan was approved by president Eisenhower but followed through by John F. Kennedy
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    The Berlin wall was built by the German Democratic Republic to cut off West Berlin from East Germany and East Berlin. The wall was referred to as the "Anti- Fascist Protection". The wall was eventually torn down and allowed people to cross and walk over.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    Cuban missile crisis was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war. All of Cuba, USSR, and US had missile and nuclear bombs pointed at each other to go off at anytime which was scary for the whole world. Eventually John F. Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev ended the missile pointing.

    Tet Offensive was a series of surprise attacks by Vietcong and North Vietnamese forces. The attack happened through south Vietnam. Turning point of Vietnam war.
  • Vietnamization

    Vietnamization
    Richard Nixon introduced Vietnamization while in office which would eventually get United States soldiers out of South Vietnam. Soon after we took troops out of South Vietnam, North Vietnam communist took over and now Vietnam is controlled by communist. This also took place by the CIA
  • Kent State

    Kent State
    Students were demonstrating there rights to protest against Vietnam war, group did not think United States should be fighting. Ohio's national guardsmen finally shot a total of 13 gun shots leaving 4 dead, 1 permantly paralyzed and 8 wounded.
