    Collaspe of Soviet Union
    In 1991 the Soviet Union divided into 15 different countries. The United States was very happy as they witnessed this. The fall of the Soviet Union resulted from a number of things. On December 15th, 1991 the president of the Soviet Union resigned and handed over his power to the Russian powers including nuclear missile codes. Later that day the Soviet flag was lowered and countries started signing Alma-Ala Protocol declaring that the Soviet Union ceased to exist.

    The act of Ukrainian independence was adopted by the Ukrainian parliament on August 24th, 1991. This establishes Ukraine as an independent state. The Parliament also called for a request for a national guard.

    Russo-Georgian War
    This war took place in August of 2008. The fighting took place in the Transcaucasia region which borders the middle east. It was the first European war in the 21st century. The soviet union weakened as the Republic of Georgia declared there independence. Relations between Russia and Georgia worsened drastically in April 2008.     NATO expansion and rising tensions
    Tensions are rising because of NATO expansions. This is the process of including new member states in NATO. NATO is a military alliance of twenty-six European and two North American countries that is identified as a system of collective defence. Countries that want to join must meet certain requirements and complete a process involving political and military integration. NATO eventually added Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.     rimea crisis begins when the Ukrainian president is expelled (Viktor Yanukovych) This started a crisis in Crimea. The Security Service of Ukraine said it would "use severe measures to prevent any action taken against diminishing the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine”. Russia seizes control of Crimea. Crimea had the intention of joint Russia after a disputed referendum passes with 96% support.
