-Soviet Union trying to seperate themselves.
- On one side the people are connected as one.

Yalta Conference

Feb 4, 1945

The Yalta conference was the discussion of what would happen at the conclusion of the war and some countries including Germany, Poland, and the United Nations. The meeting included very import people such as Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill. The conference ended on February 11,1945

VE Day

May 8, 1945

This is the day that the Europeans claim victory as the Russians defeat the Germans. This was very important to them, that they made a whole day about it and celebrated.

Potsdam Conference

-The divison of Austria and Germany into four different pieces.
- They country agreed on splitting the Berlin.
- The Korean divisons were The American Zones and the Soviet.
- It ended August 2, 1945

Hiroshima

• A bomb was dropped on a small town in Japan.
• The bomb was called "Little Boy"

- It made it the end of the WWII

Nagaski

-This was the name of the second city that we bombed.
- They were the last to experience a nucleur bomb ever.
- To the imperial Japanese Navy, Nagaski was the home.

Truman Doctrine

• Speech given by President Harry Truman. -Said US can support Turkey and Greece. -Help the countries not be ruled by the Soviets.

Creation of Israel

• The vote they had was 33 to 13. -Later after that war between the Jews and Arabs. -After signing a few papers Israel was allowed to have some of their own borders.

Marshall Plan

-The Marshall Plan was when the United States helped Europe after WWII, to help stop Soviet Communism.
- Was in progress for four years.

Berlin Air Lift

• Where the Soviet military divided to go conquer different places. -berlin was Soviet controlled. -the US and the UK, started to fly goods out to Western Germany.

• The North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
• 22 countries participate. -28 members across the states.

• War lasted for 3 years.
• They had about 75000 people in their army.
• First action from the Military of the Cold War.

Death of Stalin

• He was 74. -Killed by Nikita Khrushchev.
• He was the leader of the Soviet Union.

Warsaw Pact

• it was a defense treaty.
• Between 8 communist States. -made to keep peace in Europe

Sputnik I & Sputnik II

Oct 4, 1956

• The Duration of the Sputnik I was 92 minutes. -It was a metal 28 cm.

- Soviet union lauched it.

Hungarian Revolution

Oct 23, 1956

• Started as a protest against the Communism.
• Budapest was welcomed by the Soviet tanks.
• The new government undergoed quickly.

Suez Crisis

• Ended Novemeber 7, 1956. -It was Egypt against 3 more countries. -Soviet Union, and the United Nations were bad, that France, Britain, and Israel to bac kout.

NASA is formed

Jul 29, 1958

• Eestablished by President Dwight E. Eisenhower.
• Stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
• After, there was a new agency and that started October 1, 1958.

Bay of Pigs Invasion

• Cuban tried to invade but failed.
• It was funded by the CIA.
• Under commamd of the Prime Minister.

Berlin Wall Constructed

Aug 13, 1961

• Built by the German Democratic Republic.
• Part of the wall is called the Death Strip.
• Parts of the wall have guarded towers.
• About 100 out of 5000 people died trying to get over the wall, because they were trying to migrate.

Cuban Missile Crisis

• Lasted for 13 days. -It was between Cuba and the Soviet Union vs United States.
• Time period when the Cold War was to the point where it was almost a nuclear conflict.

Kennedy is Assassinated

• It happened in Dallas Texas.
• He was killed at 12 :30 pm.
• It was shot in the head.

USS Pueblo Incident

• The USS Pueblo was a United States Ship.
• The Korean got on and took the ship.
• It look places after Lyndon B Johnson's speech.

Nixon visits China

• He met with Mao Zedong.
• The meeting was in Beijing
• It was the first time that a president from the US visited the Republic of China.

Paris Peace Accords

• Was supposed to end the Vietnam war.
• Ended USS involvement. -Stopped the fighting

• Khmer attacked cambodia.
• Any supporters if the regime were killed.
• So many people were killed thats why it came known as the killing fields.

• Very long and expensive war.
• over 3 million people died.
• The US forces backed out.

Iran Hostage Crisis

-It ended in January 20, 1981.
-The Americans were held hostage for 444 days.
-When we tried to negoiate peace it all went wrong, resulting in 8 dead Americans, and 2 aircrafts that got messed up.

• It was the Moscow Games -We would boycott, If they didnt leave Afhaganistan.
• We were still going to send a team to Moscow.
