  • Chinese Revolution

    Chinese Revolution
    Happened in 1946-1950, communist took over the mainland China, and the Republic government of China relocated in Taiwan. Mao Zedong proclaimed the establishment of The People’s Republic of China. Chiang Kai-shek led the people to Taiwan to escape the communism. The People’s Liberation Army was primarily the winner of this. The start of communism begins and starts to show what people believe and thoughts go into the cold war.
  • Korean War Part 1

    Korean War Part 1
    The Korean War (25 June 1950-27 July 1953) was a war between South Korea which had the support of the United Nations and then North Korea which the People’s Republic of China and Soviet Union supported. North Started the attack on the South and there was a lot of back and forth between the 38th parallel which was the border that separated north and south. The border territory changed often and eventually was just divided in the middle. They didn’t want to cause a WWIII because Russia and China

    were getting into it also U.S got in on it to help protect the South. Tensions built with communism and people thought it was the first step of the communism campaign to ruling the world.
  • Uprisings in Hungary and Czechoslovakia

    Uprisings in Hungary and Czechoslovakia
    Known as the Hungarian Revolution, was a nationwide revolt against the People’s Republic of Hungary and the Soviets. The revolt spread quickly and the government collapsed and formed into militias to battle the State Security Police and Soviet Troops. On the 4 November, Soviets invaded Budapest and continued till November 10. Soviet Victory.
  • Sputnik launched

    Sputnik launched
    First artificial earth satellite, which broadcast radio pulses. Soviets launched it October 4, 1957. It was visible all around the earth and its radio pulses detectable. Begin of the Space Race and Space Age, the launch cause new political, military technological and scientific developments.
  • U2 spy plane shot down

    U2 spy plane shot down
    1960 U-2 incident was during the Cold war on May first in 1960, was shot down over the Airspace in the Soviet Union. Francis Gary Powers were the survivor. U.S denied it right away but they admitted that it was a surveillance aircraft.
  • Berlin Wall

    Berlin Wall
    It was constructed to separate West Berlin from the East and to enclose the West, served to prevent the massive emigration and defection that marked Germany and the communist Eastern Bloc. Berlin airlift starts, since you couldn’t enter besides by air, supplies were flown into berlin.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    Cuban Missile Crisis
    Since the U.S had missiles in Turkey, which were in firing range into Moscow. USSR made an alliance with Cuba and brought missiles into Cuba so they were in firing range into the U.S. The closest the war got to being Nuclear. Basically Kennedy and the USSR agreed that U.S will take the missiles out of Turkey and Soviets will take there’s out of Cuba. Now these two were top dogs and had tensions.
  • Russia invades Afghanistan

    Russia invades Afghanistan
    Lasted 9 years starting in December 1979 to February 1989. Fought between Soviet led Afghan forces against multinational insurgents. Which were trained by Pakistan and China and were givens weapons and billions of dollars from the U.S, United Nations and Saudi Arabia. Outcome became withdrawal of the Soviet Forces from Afghanistan.
