Marshall provided America with the Marshall Plan from Harvard University. the outcome of this plan was to bring Europe's poor economy into a greater and better state. the Soviet Union did not want to interfere with the plan because they thought it was mess them up more than help them.
  • Creation of NATO

    Creation of NATO
    NATO was formed to help keep peace throughout the nations of the world. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization plays a important aspect in this time because they try to keep the peace in the world.
  • Beginning of Korean War

    Beginning of Korean War
    The Korean War began when 75,000 soldiers from the North Korea Army came across the 38th parallel to fight whatever was in the path. It was shown to be the first real military action of the cold war therefore being very note worthy.
  • Veitnam War

    Veitnam War
    The Vietnam War began in 1954 when the communists of North Korea invaded the democracy of South Korea. The very experienced Viet Cong of the north clearly had the advantage in the game but South Korea had the US fighting along next to them.
  • Creation of Warsaw Pact

    Creation of Warsaw Pact
    The Warsaw Pact served as a response to the formation of NATO by the Western allies. Germany was put under high military control under this pact and that made them a bit upset. It was also the only reason Germany did not attack any one because they were being controlled.
  • Sputnik is Launched

    The Soviet Union and the US were in a tight race to the moon. it was democracy versus communism. The Soviets had Sputnik which was there version of our Apollo 11. They were then the first country to go into space but they had not landed on the moon yet.

    Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba after he overthrew the current dictator before him, Fulgencio Batista. This was huge in Cuba at the time because the Soviet union was trying to plant missles in Cuba to taunt the US. There was much celebration in Cuba but only 90 miles away in the US wasnt quite the same.

    Nikita Khrushchev visited the United States to discuss nuclear warfare and how they would interfere. the threat of weapons of mass destruction was at a high point in this time and could have really done some damage.

    The Berlin wall was built to separate communism from democracy. It divided the capitol city of Berlin right in half, there was now a west side and an east side. This wall brought much chaos to Germany and in later years, the wall is actually brought down in multiple riots throughout Germany.

    The Bay of Pigs was the attack on Cuba by the Americans to try and find Castro. There was one mission in the Bay of Pigs and that was to get Castro, dead or alive. The US troops did not end up finding Castro therefore making the invasion a bust.

    Cuba was communist therefore giving them ability to team up with other communist countries. The Soviet Union was very upset at the US and Cuba being Communist gave them the chance to get close enough to the US to blow off missles. Once President Clinton found out about this, he was forced to attack Cuba therefore saving the US, possibly the world.

    Apollo 11 helped America beat the Soviet Union to the moon. The team of Niel Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Micheal Collins all made history by taking the first steps on the moon. No one in the world has ever done this which is why this event in the Cold War is so important because it made America look like badasses.

    President Nixon went to visit China to try to influence their decision on whether thy should be a communist or a democratic country. His long-distance travel turned out to be a bust because China ended up being communist anyway so President Nixon did not influence them one bit.
  • Fall of Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall, built to keep peace between east and west Germany, was torn down in a series of riots caused by the differences in communism and democracy. This is the most famous wall in history because alot of people in the world have a piece of it somewhere in their house because there was so much of it that it could have been distributed to everyone who wanted it.

    Collapse of Soviet Union
    The Soviet Union fell on Christmas Day to democracy. the regime of communism was now no more and the former Soviet Union turned into the republic of Russia. Many of the supporters of communism fell which caused the whole Soviet Union to fall.
