    The Iron Curtain

    A boundary line that divided Europe into two separate areas of political influence. The east was under control of the Soviet Union and the West and had political freedom. The term “iron curtain” comes from The term comes from a long speech by Winston Churchill on March 5, 1946 in Fulton, Missouri. The iron curtain was formed to keep information and people out. After the cold war ended, the term well out of use ended except for in history books.

    A European recovery plan, we went over to help Europe after the end of World War 2. We try to stop the spread of communism and most of the funds from the Marshall Plan were used to import goods from the U.S. We also trained European engineers and established proper channels for cooperation between European countries.

    During the 1950’s through 1980s the Domino Theory was taking place. This theory said that if one region went under the influence then the regions surrounding it would follow, causing a domino effect. The domino theory justified the need for American intervention around the war.

It was named after Joseph McCarthy, a senator during the 1940's and 50's who would go on vicious verbal attacks on individuals he believed to be communist.
