  • Molotov Plan

    Created by the Soviet Union. Was made to provide aid to countries in Eastern Europe that were aligned to the Soviet Union in terms of politics and economy.

    Yalta Conference

    The "Big Three" or the Soviet Union, Britain and, The United States, met at Yalta. Roosevelt, Stalin and, Churchill planned what they would do for the remaining time of the war and the time after the war ended. They agreed that after the war, European Countries would have free elections. Making the Europeans able to decide on their own. They also made plans on what would happen to Germany post war. They agreed that Germany should be responsible for damages caused during the war.

    Potsdam Conference

    July 1945 Truman, Churchill and, Stalin all met in Potsdam Germany. They told Japan they needed to surrender or they will regret it. They had a new powerful weapon known as the atomic bomb. There also was a big divide between communism and democracy in terms of politics and economics. After Britain and the US started to worry about the influence of Soviet ways, Us and Russia became rivals. They both wanted control over Asia and Europe due to resources and markets. This became the War of Ideas.

    Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombings

    On the 6th and 9th August 1945 the, United States blew up two Atomic Bombs in Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In total 226,000 people were killed due to the bombings. Most of them were citizens. Six days later Japan surrendered on August 15th.

    In March President Truman presented the Truman Doctrine which asked for $400 million to find military and the economy in Turkey and Greece after the war.

    Marshall Plan

    A plan to help countries suffering from the war recover using $13 billion worth of funding. 17 different European countries were helped by receiving funds and help from the US.
  • Brussels Treaty

    This treaty signed by Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, made a collective defense alliance. It also lead to NATO and Western European Union being created.

    The soviet Union Attempted to limit the abilities of the US, Britain and France being able to travel to their sectors in the City of Berlin.
  • NATO

    NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) was created as a military alliance to defend members of it from the Soviet Union and their allies.
  • Soviet Creation of Nuclear Weapons

    The Soviet Union working on making their own atomic bombs. They exploded their own atomic bomb on Augusts 29th 1949 resulting in the first successful bomb test.
  • Korean War

    A war between North and South Korea started when North Korea invaded South Korea to turn it into a communist state. South Korea along with the United States were able to stop the invasion.
  • Stalin’s Death

    He died at the age of 74 after having a massive stroke.

    Fidel planned a armed attack on the Cuban Military later they were arrested.
  • Warsaw Pact

    Was a defence treaty created by the SU and 7 more countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland and Romania.) They invaded and took over the CSSR.

    Dividing North Vietnam and South Vietnam attempting to spread communism throughout. It was brought on by the Coldwar
  • NORAD

    NORAD (North American Aerospace Defence Command) Canada and US collaborated and made a defence system that would defend them from the air along northern shores.

    an attack launched by the CIA that failed. In an attempt to remove Fidel Castro's communist government.
  • Creation of the Berlin Wall

    Soviet Leader told East Germany to close off access between Eat and West Berlin. Later that night East German soldiers barricaded 30 miles off with a barbed wire barrier.
  • End of the Cuban Missile Crisis

    A conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. They both came close to using nuclear weapons during this time.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    Soviet Troops invaded Hungary, during the next couple of days many Hungarians were killed by Red Army Troops.
  • Nuclear Arms Treaties

    A treaty created to limit the making of nuclear weapons breaks down into 3 categories. nonproliferation, disarmament, and being able to peacefully use nuclear technology.

    When a group called the Mujahideen was fighting against The Soviet Union and the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan.

    The falling of the Berlin Wall was due to an announcement of regulations that eventually led to the wall being brought down,
  • Czechoslovakia revolution

    When many demonstrations were held in order to protest communism in the country after 40 years of communist ruling.
  • Solidarity in Poland

    This was an event that spread anti-communist beliefs throughout Europe, degrading the communism in those areas.
  • End of the Cold war.

    After all that happened during the Cold War, the Soviet Union dissolved into what we have today, finally bringing us to the end of the cold war.
