    Soviet launch Sputnik
    The soviet Union was the first to launch a satellite to space. It was named Sputnik. This satellite could orbit the earth in about 98 minutes and Americans believed that this was used to spy on America. This was part of the Space race, because during this point of the race the Soviet had the better space program and it showed with the launching of Sputnik.
  • The Berlin Wall goes up

    The Berlin Wall goes up
    This was a wall built overnight from communist Soviet Union troops separating berlin and Germany into East and West. East was communist and West was democratic. Causing major stress with people not being able to see loved ones because of the wall, and the different ways people were treated in East than West. This was an act of Brinkmanship, because this was a dangerous policy with putting the wall up without any warning about it, and not telling the citizens about it.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    Cuban Missle Crisis
    This event went from October 14-28 in 1962. Soviet Union put nuclear missiles on the communist country of Cuba. about 90 miles from Florida. When the U.S found out they made a wall to stop Soviet ships form putting more weapon on Cuba. In the End Soviet said they will take away the missiles if the U.S promised to not invade Cuba, and take their missiles out of Turkey. This was a great example of Proxy war because both of these countries got very close to engaging in war
  • Man to the Moon

    Man to the Moon
    President J.F.K said that we would put a man on the moon by the end of the decade and he was correct. Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong of Apollo 11 were the first men to step foot on the moon. After upon stepping foot on the moon Neil Armstrong said one of the most famous quotes of all time stating "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." This was part of the space race of the war, seeing which country would have the best space programs

    Olympic Rivarly 1972 Basketball Game
    With the U.S.A having an Olympic record of 63-0 there was no stopping them. Other than the Soviet Union in 1972. They won on a last second shot at the buzzer, but millions of people question to just how legit the shot was, and if it really should of happened. This was the first lost that the U.S had received ever in Olympic basketball. This shot the hope for many Americans that believed that we were the best at basketball, especially because the Soviets had won the game.
  • Mircle on ice

    Mircle on ice
    During the 1980 Olympic games the U.S and the Soviet Union faced off the game before advancing to the gold medal match. The U.S team was made up of college and amateur hockey players, while the soviet team had one the last 7 of 8 gold medals in Hockey. The U.S team ending up winning the game 3-4 and the game is forever known as the "Miracle on Ice" This however did not have a major impact on the Cold war and how it had played out, it was just good to beat the Soviet Union

    The fall of the Berlin Wall
    On November 9, 1989, as the Cold War began to thaw across Eastern Europe, the spokesman for East Berlin's Communist Party announced a change in his cities relations with the West. Starting at midnight that day, he said, citizens of the GDR were free to cross the countrys borders. This again was a form of containment of communist, because now there was no more East and West Germany, It was one big country.
  • Collapse of the Soviet Union

    Collapse of the Soviet Union
    The declaration 142-H of the Soviet of the Republics of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. The declaration acknowledged the independence of the former soviet republics and created the Commonwealth of Independent states. This was a great source of the containment of communism with one of the biggest communist countries not being communist anymore, and ending the Cold War.
